Historical Hotel of the Year 2017 : Hôtel Militärkantine in Saint-Gall
The «historical hotel of 2017» is located on Kreuzbleiche in St-Gall . It is a nice house with a highly valued construction pieces, which hosts a current concept.
The military mess of St-Gall was built in 1901 – 1902. The building, which has hosted the officers was realised in a very different way than the traditional barracks having the shape of a small hunting lodge with turrets, corbel constructions as long an imaginative façade and roof. In the messe room for soldiers, at the groundfloor, is now the restaurant, which features over the summer a pretty garden with sweet chestnut trees. The house has been renovated with a big architectonic ability and is today a convincing example of clever association of tradition and modernity.
Historical restaurant of year 2017: the Brasserie Le Cardinal, Neuchâtel
the Prize for “Historical Restaurant of the Year 2017” goes to French Speaking part. The Brasserie Le Cardinal is a little gem and its Art Nouveau décor makes it a rare find in Switzerland.
Built within the ground floor of a house built in 1733, Brasserie Le Cardinal is hardly noticeable from the outside. Only the flower motifs etched into the window panes hint at the splendours within. The interior walls are covered with tiles decorated in the purest Art Nouveau style of the Belle Époque, depicting fantastical landscapes alive with waterfowl, wild flowers, peacocks, exotic parrots and fairytale castles.
